[EDITING] First Session

The first session of editing was somewhat difficult, this is because the difference from last year was that we are now using different laptops. It is the same make Apple but the more update MacBook Pro, which I and my group have never used before, so before we even thought about editing we have to figure out how to use it. Our teacher Mr Kay showed us various iMovie tutorials which helped me understand more about using this new piece of hardware.

Here are some of the tutorials:

This was useful has we had many clips and being able to organize them made life much easier when we wanted to find a clip.

This tutorial will be very useful as one of our clips need this so when we get to editing that part, we will implement this instruction.

Today's editing session was to understand the new hardware we was using and to organize all of our clips.

[FILMING] Day 3 & Pictures

The third day of filming which is the house scene, before we got to the location we came up with some really good ideas. Then once we got to the location we came up with even more ideas, as we were able to see what we was actually filming so we could change and add some shots.

Location: Stockwell, Inside home.

Todays roles:
Me - actor
Usman - camerman/actor
Mark - idea guy/photographer
Samuel - Had college lessons so we didn't want him to miss them so he didn't have to come, but we did fill him in on what was going on and what the final shots were by text and I believe that we have achieved this.

Today we shot me(Nicholas Andrews) aka Lee and Usman Sheikh aka Lucifer in my home and just outside it. We wanted shots that were both slow paced and fast paced. The artificial lighting in my flat made the shots look more real and intimate because we wanted to show that this was my house and that I was somewhat successful as I can own my own flat. We had some real good shots and one not really good shot. One was on the window seal looking down and out of the window showing my walking into my block, this was a really good shot one which we made up on the day. The not so shot was when we tried to film me walking into my block through the intercom camera, it didn't look good as there was black lines going down the screen. There was another horrorish shot where I am sitting on my couch and Lucifer walks down my corridor but I don't see him, I believe that this adds to the suspense or whats going to happen or am i going to see him.

Again like previous days we took alot of shots with alot of different angles, this should help us with editing. This was the last day of filming and now we have to edit.

Here are the pictures from the final location for our teaser trailer:

[FILMING] Day 2 & Pictures

Second day of filming and we was optimistic with this day as the ideas which we came up with prior to filming was really good and the location was somewhat exciting based on the ideas we came up with.

Location: Southside Wandsworth Car Park.

Todays roles:
Me - cameraman/idea guy
Usman - actor/idea guy
Mark - actor/photographer
Samuel - Had college lessons so we didn't want him to miss them so he didn't have to come, but we did fill him in on what was going on and what the final shots were by text.

Today we shot Mark Ahmed aka Tom and Usman Shiekh aka Lucifer in the car park. The shots we was looking for today was more slow paced than day 1, yet it was more menacing and dark themed. We hoped that the natural light from outside the car park and the artificial lighting the car park has would be enough to make the shots not look too dark but not too light and I believe that is what we accomplished today. We played with a hand held shot which was tricky but I reckon that it came out ok and with a bit of editing it will look better than what I saw whilst filming it. I took a classic shot which I have seen many times in thrillers and horrors where a dark shadow walks across the screen and the person can't see them but turns around just was the shadow leaves the screen.

Just like day 1 we took alot of shots with different angles so we can have a variety of shots to work with whilst editing begins.

Here are pictures from the location we filmed this part of the teaser trailer:

[FILMING] Day 1 & Pictures

This was the first day of filming, we was unsure if it would work out as there was some rain before we went out, and once we got to the location it started spitting but it didn't affect the filming.

Film Location : Tooting; Chetwode Rd, Holdemesse Rd and Trinity Cresent.

Today we film shots with Samuel Mante aka Jason and Usman Sheikh aka Lucifer. We had 2 ideas one was a slow paced stalker theme and other other was a fast paced supernatural ghostlike theme, luckily enough we was able to shot both of the ideas with alot of shots and angles. We wanted alot of shots from different angles as it would gives us a variety of shots to work with once we start to edit. As it was raining before we filmed I believe that it added to the footage and fits in well with our genre, during the filming it started to spit a little which you can just slightly see in the camera but it didn't affect us at all, infact it actually added that extra something to the shots that we needed.

We came to the conclusion that on each filming day we all would have our jobs to do depending who is there.
For today the roles were as such:
Me - cameraman/ideas guy
Usman - actor/ideas guy
Samual - actor
Mark - photographer/cameraman

We believe that assigning roles for each day will make us more organised and efficient, which will make the filming easier and less stressfull.

[EXCLUSIVE] The Film Title Has Been Decided

This has been an ongoing discussion with my group on what the name of our film should be. There have been many things we have had to consider whilst comoing up with the title such as:
- The film genre.
- The film concept.
- Origionality.
- Something that will stand out from others.
- Can it be related back to the film.

The Ideas we came up with was:
- Echo of Silence
- Silent Footsteps
- Red Ribbon
- The Silent Pursuit

Whilst having to consider such thing that I have mentioned above we have come to the conclusion that the title of the film will be.....

Silent Footsteps

Also, with the name of the title now decided we have started to create ideas for the films posters and magazine covers.

Cemetery Junction Teaser Trailer

This teaser trailer is very basic, but very effective. I believe this because the concept is to show people that it is a comedy; by Ricky Gervais making fun off Ralph Fiennes. They don't show any of the film but they are hoping that the start power alone Ricky Gervais known for "The Office" and various funny films, Ralph Fiennes was nominated for an oscar, will make people want to go and watch the film.

The Shining Trailer

The Shining arguably the best horror films ever put out. This trailer doesn't show alot but lets people understand what it is all about. The music is scary in its own right the plucking of the strings, the low drum, the high pitch noise, altogether makes the trailer scary. They make you wait and wonder whats going to happen by playing the music for 55 seconds only showing the text scrolling up the screen and the lift and furniture, this is to create suspense and get into the audience minds. They then proceed to have blood pouring out of the lifts and eventually hitting the camera and moving the furniture, this has the shock factor aswell as the gruesome side of the trailer.
This film also produced an iconic cinematic moment which to this day is still talked about, it also the films most famour sequence in the film. It is when Jack (Jack Nicholson) uses his axe to break through the door but only a piece breaks off, he then sticks his face througb the door, with a crazy look on his face and shouts "Here's Johnny!".

Since vampires are the new in thing this year

For some strange reason theres a new obsession with vampires this year. The main reason for this are the Twillight books, which are now being made into films (well one has already be made) and a new one called The Twillight Saga:New Moon is coming out november 20th in the UK. So because of this I thought I should check out the teaser trailers for these films.

Psycho Trailer

The late great Alfred Hitchcock known for being one of if not the best director in the suspense and psychological thriller genres. He directed this film which some consider his best work.
This film also has one of the most famour scenes in cinema history when one of the characters are murdered in the shower. The iconic music played whilst the murder was happening had screeching violins, violas, and cellos which added to the horror which was taking place. Adding with the high pitch screem made the scene all that more intense.

Michael Bay and his production company will be rebooting the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise with a remake of the 1984 film.

Orphan a horror film about a family who lose their unborn child so decide to adopt. It seems very cliche but the trailer does make it look really scary.

Paranormal Activity Teaser Trailer

This is the only trailer out for Paranormal Activity, it has recently come out but because it is a really low budget film it's only out in select cinemas in the US. It is getting lot of good reviews over there and the trailer does make it look good.

Survey Analysis

Me and my group were set an audience research task for teaser trailers. Once we had surveyed 40 people we then analyzed the surveys and this is what we have come up with.

Criteria for a film to have a teaser trailer

I have been investigating what criterias a film should have to be able to make a teaser trailer and I have come to the conclusion that there are 6 categlories which are:

-Be an adaption of a game
-Be an adaption of a book
-Should include a big budget
-Should include big actors
-Should include famous directors
-Should be a sequel

2012 Comparison

The most notable comparision between 2012 teaser trailer and the official trailer is the length, the teaser is just over 1 minute whereas the official trailer is is near to 3 minutes. The teaser trailer shows me one big part of the film and puts emphasise on that so it can draw the viewer in. Also it has 4 text clips which makes the viewer want to know more about the film, because of this it creates anticipation for the film which a teaser trailer is suppose to do.

The full trailer has narrative to give us more insight into what the film is about. The trailer shows more scenes with big budget special effects which, like the teaser trailer will create more anticipation for the film. Also, it introduces characters one of which is Danny Glover who is famous, so because of that fans of his will want to go and see the film. The trailer shows alot of a family which makes me think that they are centering the film around the family because they are involved in alot of the major disasters which happen They show the director and what films he has made like Independance Day and The Day After Tomorrow which are both successful films.

The other major difference is the number of clips in each of the trailers, in the teaser there are around 17 clips whereas in the full trailer there are just over 100 clips. This is expected because in the teaser they show just one events but there are alot of panning around the disaster and focusing on the same person. In the full trailer they have to show more major disasters and more characters so that the film can gain momentum before its release, so with the special effects and the characters the trailer should do so.
